Let’s Explore Other Worlds

Doraemon is a classic anime character that time hasn’t forgotten despite him not being brought up in mainstream anime fandoms. His show doesn’t feature anything too complex mysteries to grasp detective fans or any beautiful fight sequences that will excite action lovers. Instead, this anime aims to charm folks with its relaxing atmosphere, cutesy characters, and enthralling activities involving Doraemon and his friends. It follows the mundane life of a fourth-grade student named Nobita, whose world changes after a blue robotic cat appears from his desk drawer. Doraemon informs Nobita that he was sent into the past to guide him down a better path since Nobita’s future revolves around poverty and horrible mistakes. To assist himself in reforming Nobita’s status, Doraemon has a four-dimensional pocket device with him. This device holds his many futuristic machines and gadgets. Although these tools should aid him on his quest, Doraemon isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. Therefore, the anime follows the goofy endeavors of Nobita and Doraemon. Similarities – Tone & Art Style

In some instances, Kiteretsu Encyclopedia feels like a Doraemon clone. This series not only shares the same creator as Doraemon; it follows a similar episodic premise involving a robot and a human. This show includes a cartoon-like art style and is an enjoyable series to watch when you feel stressed or worn out. Our tale follows a young scientist named Kiteretsu, who builds a robotic companion named Korosuke. They embark on many adventures in Kiteretsu’s time machine and hang out with Kiteresu’s other companions. Unlike Nobita, Kiteretsu is a well-crafted individual capable of creating futuristic tech to please himself and others. However, the antics between Kiteretsu, Korosuke, and his friends are vaguely reminiscent of the Doraemon and Nobita mishaps they encounter in their show. Therefore, Kiteretsu Encyclopedia offers a different take on Doraemon’s premise while delivering a similar soothing atmosphere.

Dr. Slump & Arale-chan

Similarities – Tone & Theme

Although Dragon Ball ended up becoming a more action and dramatic piece of work, it once was a lighthearted and imaginative anime with enough comedy to get a giggle out of any anime fan. While Dr. Slump & Arale-chan isn’t as action-packed as Dragon Ball’s later installments, it carries the same comedic nature as it. Dr. Slump & Arale-chan features a simple narrative. It’s about a scientist named Dr. Slump who creates a little android girl named Arale. Don’t let her childish appearance fool you. She’s super strong and full of happiness but lacks common sense. These two live in Penguin Village where strange events occur on a daily basis. Like Doraemon, Dr. Slump & Arale-chan isn’t a complex or thought-provoking anime. Like Doraemon, Mojakou offers an endless amount of comedy, character progression, and heartwarming vibes. This is an incredible older anime to watch for those looking to unwind and relax.

Sgt. Frog is another cutesy anime with compelling characters, enjoyable comedy, and a beautiful world. Like Doraemon, this series features other-worldly organisms living peacefully among human companions while helping them with their needs. It offers the same cartoon-like art style, but its visuals feel more mesmerizing than Doraemon’s. Furthermore, the humor inserted into Sgt. Frog varies from clever slapstick to parody. Its comedy and quirky storytelling won’t appeal to everyone, but Sgt. Frog’s sure to delight anyone willing to give it a chance. This anime follows an alien frog named Sergeant Keroro, invading a 12-year-old boy named Fuyuki Hinata’s household. He subdues Fuyuki and his sister and plans to reunite with his people to repair a device that will help with their invasion. Unfortunately, Keroro receives word from his higher-ups that the unit’s abandoned the mission and left him and his squad behind. This forces Keroro to stay with the Fuyuki family, compiled of many colorful personalities. Stuck on Earth, Keroro and his friends plot various destructive schemes thwarted by unexpected circumstances. However, as they live among humanity, Keroro and his allies learn to treat humans kindly and form meaningful connections with them.

To continue living as a pet, Kuro-chan disguises himself as a stuffed toy. Like Doraemon, Cyborg Kuro-chan doesn’t feature any complexity. Bonobono

Bonobono falls in the same ballpark as Doraemon regarding shows with relaxing atmospheres and centers around friendship. At the same time, the adventures Bonobono and his friends embark on are nowhere near as absurd as Doraemon and Nobita’s endeavors. In this show, you can expect Bonobono and his friends to get into mischief that feels more realistic. While the situations have predictable outcomes, this is a series that uses its simplicity to its advantage. The show never delves into anything complex, but viewers will find that it’s best that it doesn’t. The episodes only last about 5 minutes compared to Doraemon’s 11-minute runtime per episode. While each episode delivers a new challenge for Bonobono and his friends to tackle, they’ll always manage to pull themselves together and solve the issue. If you’re looking for a series that’s wonderful for children and doesn’t require any brain power on their part, consider Bonobono.
