Hinamatsuri – Masao Ohtake

Hinamatsuri promises to deliver similar hilarious antics on par with what you’d see the Forgers get into in Spy X Family. This manga’s not to be taken too seriously with its content. However, if you’re a fan of nonsensical plotlines with charming characters, you’re in for a treat with this one. That said, Hinamatsuri’s cast has more characterization. The art style is more distinct too. Nonetheless, the situations our characters endure are similar to the Forgers. This manga has our cast enduring suspicious business practices and explores its young female protagonist’s school life to a large extent. With incredible splatstick and situational humor is thrown in the mix, there’s a good balance of content here to satisfy readers. This manga follows Yoshifumi Izumi, a yakuza member who must monitor a mysterious girl named Hana. She exits a strange capsule before meeting Izumi and he witnesses her utilize her bizarre powers to defeat a rival group. After seeing her potential, Izumi takes his role as a caregiver more seriously and forms a strong bond with Hana.
Oshi no Ko – Aka Akasaka

Oshi no Ko is another new Shueisha serialized series that’s gained a mild following. Where Spy X Family follows a group of skilled and supernatural beings, Oshi no Ko follows a mundane idol taking care of babies who can talk. Based on its premise alone, readers can expect many goofy shenanigans to develop in this series. It adopts a lighthearted atmosphere and maintains this tone throughout its work so far. It’s currently ongoing and readers can catch up to it via the Shonen Jump + application. Furthermore, this series features a similar theme of following a protagonist who must hide their true identity from others to avoid suspicion. The manga touches upon some dark subjects but never leans into them too much. If you need another heartwarming manga that’ll make you giggle, give this a shot.
Ruri Dragon – Masaoki Shindou

Ruri Dragon is a new manga that saw its debut in 2022. Within six days, it managed to outsell various popular manga like Chainsaw Man, My Hero Academia, and others. It’s an impressive work with compelling storytelling, wonderful characters, and rich dialogue that feels surprisingly realistic. The way our characters interact with each feels akin to conversations you’d have with people in your life. The manga’s art style works with the story Shindou attempts to tell. It’s not anything refreshing or new, but it gets the job done. There are a few panels that will impress you, though. Like Spy X Family, this manga has our protagonist get into many goofy situations with several people she meets along the way. Our protagonist Ruri Aoka is an average student who wakes up with dragon horns one morning. Her mother reveals that Ruri’s a half-dragon and human hybrid. Although Ruri’s worried this will interfere with her ability to make friends, she’s surprised by everyone’s wholesome response toward her new horns. Going from an ordinary life to a chaotic one is no easy task as we follow Ruri’s quest to live a peaceful life.
Grand Blue Dreaming – Kenji Inoue

Grand Blue is a hilarious manga series. It revolves around Iori Kitahara who struggles to maintain a balance between his adult and college lifestyles. In it, readers will follow Iori’s many adventures with his eccentric companions. He gets involved in numerous activities from drinking alcohol to scuba diving. Furthermore, Iori will meet new people and learn what it means to live a fulfilling lifestyle. The humor carries this manga to the very end. The artwork looks appealing and the characters blend well with the manga’s various settings. Those looking for a bit of hardcore action may find themselves disappointed with this story. However, if you enjoy Spy X Family’s slice-of-life elements then you’re in for a pleasing time with Grand Blue.
