What is Monica O My Darling about?
As the title reveals, the central subject around which the story revolves is Monica (played by Huma Qureshi). But for all the wrong reasons. She is a secretary at Unicorn Robotics and is simultaneously blackmailing three men by allegedly claiming to carry their children. Jayant (played by Rajkumar Rao) is the only surviving member of the trio, as the other two are murdered. Essentially, Monica O My Darling is both a whodunnit and also a play on who dies next. Bala marries noir elements of filmmaking in some parts with the lively essence of ’80s cinema, where the costumes and songs were peppier and colorful. Will there be a sequel to Monica O My Darling?
Despite ending on a cliffhanger, a sequel has not been planned. It is quite a difficult task for producers to come up with a sequel given the voluminous content creation. Sequels are very rare but Monica makes a compelling case for one. The overwhelming reaction from audiences and critics alike will prompt serious thought into going for a sequel, even if that idea is a bit far-fetched right now. Ajay Devgan’s Drishyam 2 came out almost 7 years after the release of the original and that was a huge commercial success. So that is saying something. However unlikely the plans and possibility for a direct sequel may be, we have some interesting news to share with a “possibility” discussed by director Vasan Bala in a recent interview.
What could happen in Monica O My Darling 2?
If you have seen both films by Bala, you would have spotted Supri (played by Radhika Madaan) making a surprise appearance in Monica. Supri was the main character from his previous film Mard, and her presence in Monica is no coincidence. Bala elaborated on his wild idea that perhaps “the universes of both the films have a crossover” to give an epic occasion for viewers to flock to theatres. A crossover would see most of the characters return in their original capacities without hampering the tone and tenor of the new film. What also remains to be seen is if Jayant indeed survived the finale of the film, which is quite unlikely. But, you never know. He was indeed a “slithering snake” when it came to slipping out of trouble.
When could Monica O My Darling 2 be released?
