What is Mr. Harrigan’s Phone about?
The movie revolves around a boy called Craig who is hired by an elderly billionaire called Mr. Harrigan to read to him. The two strike up a bond and after Craig wins big on a lottery card that Harrigan gives to him, he buys the old man an iPhone with some of his winnings. When Mr. Harrigan dies, Craig attends the funeral and secretly places the iPhone in the jacket the dead man is wearing. It could be assumed that their friendship is now over but when Craig starts to receive messages from Harrigan’s phone, it’s clear that the spirit of his friend is reaching out to him from beyond the grave. What happens next? Well, we won’t spoil that for you here but you can check out our Ending Explained article if you would like to know more.
Will there be a Mr. Harrigan’s Phone 2?
There has been no official confirmation about a sequel to Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. This doesn’t mean a sequel won’t happen, of course. Several of Stephen King’s adapted works have had sequels, even when they weren’t really needed, such as Firestarter 2: Rekindled and A Return To Salem’s Lot. In the case of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, the ending is inconclusive so unlike those other sequels, there is actually a reason to consider a continuation of the story. Unfortunately, the movie has received some negative reviews so these could rule out the chances of a sequel. Still, the movie seems to be doing well with Netflix viewers so if viewing figures remain high, the streaming giant might green-light a second movie.
What could Mr. Harrigan’s Phone 2 be about?
If there is a sequel, it will likely continue Craig’s story and the continuing impact Harrigan has on his life. As Harrigan began to take vengeance on Craig’s enemies in the first movie, the sequel will probably focus on the boy’s attempts to put an end to the dead man’s antics, but as to how he might do this, we don’t really know. There is also scope for a prequel. In the first movie, we learn Harrigan had a dark past but we aren’t given any major details. As such, the prequel could fill in the blanks and perhaps reveal more about his vengeful nature. When could Mr. Harrigan’s Phone 2 be released?
A sequel could be released at the end of next year or early 2023 if it is given the green light. But as there is no guarantee that a sequel will be made, you might want to check out the original short story by Stephen King if you want to re-enter Harrigan’s world. As there are loads of other Stephen King adaptations worth seeing, you might want to check those out too if you’re a fan of the author’s works.
