The movie does not come to a conclusive end so there is scope for a sequel. But will there be an Old People 2? Or are the chances for a sequel scheduled for retirement? Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is Old People about?
The movie focuses on a woman called Ella and her two kids as they return to their hometown to celebrate Ella’s sister’s wedding. After the ceremony, a thunderstorm rocks the village and the residents of a local retirement home are suddenly transformed into bloodthirsty killers. Ella and her family are forced into a deadly battle for survival when the senior citizens break free from their home and go on a rampage. Do Ella and the kids survive the night? Will there be an Old People 2?
There has been no official confirmation of a sequel at this stage. The chances of a sequel will likely depend on viewing figures, review scores, and a decent storyline for a follow-up movie. As the movie has only just been released, it’s too early to talk about viewing figures. But in terms of reviews, the movie hasn’t been rated very highly by many critics. As such, we don’t think a sequel is likely. However, there is scope for a sequel if Netflix does decide to green-light a second movie as Old People’s conclusion didn’t bring the story to a complete close.
What could Old People 2 be about?
The sequel would likely follow the survivors of the first movie as they try to find safety. But as the violent uprising of seniors was taking place globally, their chances of remaining safe for very long would be slim as no matter where they went, there would be old people trying to attack them. As such, the movie could feature an all-out apocalypse caused by rampaging pensioners with small pockets of survivors banding together to take on this unusual threat. In the final voiceover of the first movie, one character suggested the need to resolve the differences between the young and old generations so the sequel would likely focus on this without stinting on scenes of all-out carnage. When could Old People 2 be released?
If a sequel is given the green light, there is a chance that it could be released in October 2023 in time for Halloween. Or it could be released at the start of 2024 if more time is needed for the cast and crew to work on the movie.
